Take Me to Texas ~ West Coast RV Adventure 2023 ~ Day 32-34 and Home!

Well, by now, you’ve figured out that we’ve been home for over five weeks. Mom and I just had soooo much to do when we got home that we’ve been a bit slow finishing up telling you about the end of our trip. So here goes…

We were up and at ‘em this morning cuz Dad said we had a ways to go today. We headed south through Utah and the ground started turning rocky, red and desert like again. We went along the border of Moab National Park. Mom said it was a teaser preview of one of our future Great RV Adventures. Your guess is as good as mine as to when we’ll take that trip, but I’ll be sure to let you know when we do. Anyway, it made for some pretty scenery.

As we got closer to and entered Colorado, it was as if we were on two different trips. Out the right window were the red rock formations, and out the left window was a beautiful view of snowcapped rugged mountains. It was crazy! God sure has a very creative but interesting sense of humor!

Our campsite for the night was really great! I was worried we were going to be on the hot red rock somewhere, but nope! Our drive took us into the mountain area and then into a canyon near Durango. It was suddenly really green and pretty. And our campsite was right next to a babbling brook (it really did babble! Who knew??!) at the bottom of a narrow canyon with big trees all around. We loved it! It was pretty small and quiet too, so Dad threw the ball for me for a while! That was fun!! And it got cool at night, so we got to sleep with the windows open.

The next morning after driving for just a bit into town, Dad and Mom met with one of Dad’s former co-workers for coffee. The place wasn’t one of those cool coffee places that likes dogs though, so I napped in the LHOW. After that, it was just a really long day of driving. We left the pretty mountain scenery and it became high desert, which after all the amazing things we’ve seen, it really kinda boring. I tried to convince Mom to throw the ball for me, but she said I had to wait until we got home. I wonder when that’s going to be?

We did make one stop for something called fireworks. Mom took me for a trot and told Dad to just buy sparklers. But when we went inside, he had picked out a few more things. Mom vetoed the parachuting Barbie and told Dad he was a “pyromaniac,” whatever that is!

Mom and Dad have been listening to another audiobook called Daisy Jones and the Six. This one has a lot of different voices talking and it’s about a band. It seems to keep them entertained. We camped outside of Tucumcari, New Mexico, and yep, there was a train track nearby! Boy was it hot. We sat in the shade for a little bit, but then these HUGE mosquitos started attacking all of us! Mom said she could actually feel them land on her skin! Yikes! We went in for the night pretty quickly!

Once again, we were out of there pretty quickly in the morning. I think we all were just really eager to get home. While we were driving, Mom asked Dad what surprised him most about this trip. He laughed and said that we were gone for 34 days and enjoyed all of it!! (Well, if I’m going to be straight with ya, yesterday and today have been pretty boring. But Mom says that’s the price you pay for living in Texas and driving anywhere pretty!) He’s right though. Dad has never liked being gone from home for more than a couple of weeks, and this trip was almost FIVE weeks! But what a grand adventure it’s been!

It seemed like we were getting close to home, but it was taking forever… I kept asking Mom if we were almost there…

And finally! Almost 6200 miles and 34 days later…We were back at Casa de Mayo. Home. Sweet. Home. I was so excited! It’s the little things you miss about home that I used to take for granted, like being able to run and chase balls in the house and get on and off the bed whenever I want to and lay in the morning sun!! But for 34 days or so, I’ll gladly give these things up to go on a grand adventure in a Little House on Wheels with Mom and Dad.
