Memories ~ West Coast RV Adventure 2023 ~ Day 30 & 31

Mom and Dad took showers this morning. That always makes for a great start to the day! We left Meridian today and headed to Twin Falls, Idaho. Just outside the city, they had an overlook where we could see a big gorge with the Snake River running through it. There was a nice golf course that Dad said he’d like to play.

Then we stopped to have lunch with Ila Mae. Ila is a woman who has known Dad since before he was born. She’s one of Granny’s best lifelong friends. We had fun talking about memories and catching up with one another. She enjoyed getting to go out to lunch too. She’s 93, but she looks and moves really well!  She used to have a dachshund, and she kept saying she could keep me. She seems really nice, but I don’t think Mom and Dad would let that happen.

We continued driving through Idaho’s farmland. Mom and Dad said some of it looked like California. They’ve been listening to another audiobook. It’s called “Daisy Jones and the Six.” There are a lot of different voices that I don’t recognize, so I just took a nap.

Our next stop was another visit with a family friend. Dad and Martha have known each other since they were babies and grew up together. Their parents were really good friends. Her cousin Kate lives with her in the big house her parents lived in for decades. Dad enjoyed the walk down memory lane with Martha. I decided to stay in the LHOW because Martha has two HUGE dogs that both bark REALLY loud.  So I just stayed in the LHOW and protested my discontent with being deserted the whole time they were inside.

We left Tremonton and it was raining off and on. Despite the rain, we had a beautiful drive through Logan Canyon to Bear Lake. It was a beautiful green, deep canyon with a very full and powerful river running through the base of it. Boy, it would be scary to fall into that river!

We passed over the top of the mountain and were headed down the other side when we caught our first glimpse of Bear Lake. It was beautiful! And much bigger than Mom and I expected! We were very pleasantly surprised.  Even Dad thought it was bigger than he remembered.

We camped in Garden City on Bear Lake. Dad said this was probably our last opportunity for a campfire, so he built a really great one. It was SO warm. Mom had to move my bed away from it a little. It started sprinkling, and Mom and Dad just put up their umbrellas while they sitting in their chairs. So silly! Mom and Dad even ate dinner by the fire. Mom said any opportunity she has to eat outside, especially by a campfire, she’ll take! And a little rain wasn’t going to make her retreat inside.

The next morning Dad wanted to explore Bear Lake, but first we stopped for coffee and yummy crepes. It was another opportunity for people to ooh and aah over me. They always say how cute or pretty I am. And then they ask how old I am, thinking I’m still a puppy. Mom just says that I’m 3 years old and this is all ya get! I think that’s funny. We headed up the mountain and saw some great views.

Our next stop was Beaver Mountain, a ski resort where Dad learned how to ski when he was a boy. He couldn’t believe how small it was, but I think it brought back some fun memories for him.

Our drive back down Logan Canyon sure was pretty. We made a quick stop back in Tremonton to see Martha. She had forgotten to give us some of her fresh honey and Mom forgot to give her toffee. So it was a “sweet exchange!” Haha.

We had some more nice views driving through Salt Lake City. Those Wasatch Mountains are stunning. I bet accidents happen on the freeway just cause people are gazing at the mountains instead of paying attention to driving. We stopped to have dinner with Auntie Kim and our friend Sharon. Sharon is another lifelong friend of Dad’s and Auntie Kim’s.

After a walk in the park and a nice dinner, we drove on to Provo where we spent the night. On our usual campground exploration walk, Mom met a woman who is writing a book on life transitions. She and Mom had an interesting conversation about the chapters of their lives. I started thinking about all of my fun memories and chapters of my life. My favorite chapter by far is when I became a Mayo.
