Happy Place ~ West Coast RV Adventure 2023 ~ Day 24
Well, I’m not gonna lie, we all went to bed last night a little blue, and I woke up feeling the same. But Mom and Dad were already up and moving! So that’s normal for Dad, but not for Mom. We like to hang out in bed together for a bit every morning. Mom said, “Up and at ‘em, chica!” (She calls me that sometimes.) Dad explained that Mom called and got a campsite at Lake Crescent, and we were out of here!! Yippee!! I kinda feel as if we didn’t give Port Townsend a chance, but ya gotta go with your heart, right?
Low tide on the Strait looked really different from high tide last evening. But the lake was calling. It was a glorious sunny day, and the drive back up was pretty. The excitement and anticipation was palpable. We all couldn’t wait to get back to Lake Crescent, our happy place.

A big bear met Mom when she went to register for our campsite. And a mama duck with really bad hair and a bunch of babies greeted us in the creek behind our campsite. She really wasn’t very happy to see us though, and she let us know. What a weird noise she made! The bear was much nicer. We got the campsite all set up, and then we just basked in the beauty of the lake. What a perfect afternoon! We explored a little. Dad always skips stones. I explored the tall grass. I laid in the sun. I laid in the shade. Mom and Dad read. We all stared at the lake. And the babble of the creek provided wonderful background music. As Mary Poppins would have said, it was practically perfect in every way!
Dad built a great campfire, and I helped with some sticks. Mom and Dad had dinner outside by the fire. We sat by it until the last embers burned out. Turns out, this trip has reminded Mom of just how much she loves a campfire. We were all definitely in our happy places today!
